Susan's New Book

NEVER SAY NEVER,
NEVER SAY ALWAYS

Reflections on love, loss, and loving again

Susan S. Warner had a storybook marriage of 38 years and two magnificent children. She existed in the comfort of an extraordinary cocoon of family and friends. And then the unimaginable happened — the devastating suicide of her 32-year-old son, followed six months later with the death of her husband to a virulent cancer eight weeks after his diagnosis. How did she survive this catastrophic loss and find happiness again?

Susan’s story takes you on her journey to acceptance, pushing on and not being defined by social emotional norms. It’s a journey of self-discovery, self-actualization and ultimately working to live her best life, her way. And while she has moved forward, she has not moved on from her son and husband, who are part of this journey — keeping their memories alive has helped her heal.

By sharing her story, she hopes to help others who have suffered loss – loss of a spouse, a child, a friend, a parent, a sibling—understand that with loss, life doesn’t have to end, and it doesn’t need to define them. Everyone deserves happiness. However, happiness is not to be found, but to be made. The path to the next chapters of life can be empowering and exciting.

Susan Warner

I am an educator, wife and mother. My journey is a perfect example of life’s contradictions.  A storybook marriage of 38 years and two magnificent children, I existed in the comfort of an extraordinary cocoon of family and friends. Enter the devastating suicide of my 34-year-old son and then the subsequent death of my husband 6 months later of a virulent cancer in an eight-week diagnosis to death, my story is of acceptance, pushing on and not being defined by social emotional norms.  I am living my best life, making choices that define my “right turn” after my catastrophic loss, and characterizing a journey to self-actualization and a commitment to help others who have experienced loss.

I am on a coaching and motivational journey to share my story and experience with anyone who has suffered loss and share my philosophy of moving “forward,” but not “moving on.”

The pain of losing a child is unnatural and indescribable. There is a hole in your heart that will never close and never heal. I lost my son to suicide in August, 2017. But seven months later, I also lost my magnificent husband.

Everyone is afraid to ask Susan Warner what it’s like to be with a man after she was in a storybook marriage for 38 years. I decided to ask her that question in this podcast for all the respectful book and lifestyle writers who are interviewing Susan since the release of her memoir “Never Say Never, Never Say Always… Always…Love, Loss, and Loving Again” (The Three Tomatoes Publishing). It’s a valid question considering her book is all about how she survived the catastrophic loss of her 32-year-old son to suicide six years ago and then six months later the death of her husband to a virulent cancer eight weeks after his diagnosis.

Yet Susan has been living a full, happy life for the last several years, especially since her daughter gave birth to her first grandchild almost a year ago. This podcast is all about how to make choices. To those who know her it’s not surprising that she leads a satisfying existence whether she’s married or single. She believes in creating happiness, not looking for it.
